DOCTOR, REVEREND, AVANGELIST

 

"Dr. Mhaske Ministering to a Group"

Doctor Chandrakant Anandrao Mhaske lives in Aurangabad, about 150 miles east of Mumbai, formerly known as Bombay, in the west central Maharashtra State of India. Dr. Mhaske owns his own business, the Anand Dental Clinic, and is a dental and consulting surgeon at the local State-run Dental College. But with all of these esteemed accomplishments, Dr. Mhaske did not know he would also become a respected AVangelist, not until early 2003, at least. It was during his training at the Haggai Institute in Singapore that God opened his eyes to the potential of Media Evangelism. “I believe audiovisual evangelism is a very good system to communicate the message to non-believers. In my training I learned how effective it is to understand all points very easily through AVangelism.”

Slow mail delayed his equipping, but not his enthusiasm. “I am so glad to read you are sending the Torch Kit and other materials to assist. The Lord has opened a door in my ministry.”

Our package finally arrived in mid-2004. Customs declared a 30% tax of 10,000 rupees, even though the material was clearly declared as a Free Gift. But when Dr Mhaske displayed the Free AudioVisual Lecture Certificate InterComm provides with every package shipped, the Customs Agent declared - No Fees Need Be Paid. “I praise the Lord for His kindness. Sir, now I am an AVangelist, because of your donations and also your prayer support. I will not forget to submit my Reports to you.”

True to his word, his 1st Report arrived very well organized in January 2005. 610 people had viewed the Torch Kit showings with 155 receiving Christ. “The Hindi people are accepting the Word of God by seeing the Filmstrips and Videos. Please continue to pray for me and my Mrs.” (Prafullata) “I am happy to report we both have now completed courses at our Bible Seminary and received our degrees. We now can serve the Lord as Pastors for God’s work.”

Some months later he wrote, “I regret to inform you of the sad demise of my 18 year old daughter, Prajakta. She received lower scores than expected on her college medical entrance exams, and she was so shocked and saddened, she threw herself under the train. The devil has made a big attack on our family, after we have begun spreading the Word of God. Besides AVangelism, we have begun a Bible study with 35 Hindu students and a Women’s Prayer group every Friday. We are in deep sorrow.”

In such times God has blessed InterComm through the ministry of encouragements. To such a letter Dr Mhaske writes: “Thank you very much for your prayers and your kind letter. We are being careful not to blame each other and also to carefully counsel our son. Please keep praying for us.”

Many months later, another Media Report arrived. “The Torch Kit is a very active tool for evangelism. Recently we prepared a showing only to lose electricity before we began. The people were so upset they would miss the story. But my son located a battery, and the showing took place. Not only was everyone pleased, but 3 people accepted Christ. What I like about the Torch Kit is since it is not a motion picture, we have more opportunity to explain the Word of God.”

These days he has 3 Hindi films and over 40 of our titles in the English language on disk. Yet, the Torch Kit remains the central part of his ministry. To date he has reported 152 showings to 7,958 people with 2,772 decisions to follow Christ. “InterComm is the very best media to communicate with people and help them understand the Gospel.”

We praise God for servants like Dr Rev AVangelists Mr. & Mrs Mhaske!

EASY AND INTERESTING

Rev Raphael Ongango of Uganda writes:

“Torch Kit missions has been one of the most exciting evangelism strategies we have used. Many people have decided to give their lives to Christ. It is very important to know that Torch Ministry in Uganda, Eastern Region, has made evangelism easy and interesting. Many youth are supporting this ministry with us. We pray that God may provide more opportunities because many churches and schools are also interested in our showings.”

His Report covered 127 showings to 13,201 people with 3,918 decisions for Christ.


 

CAMBODIA UPDATE

The 3 primary films are now completely edited and in the process of evaluation and/or duplication with the Committee in Phnom Penh. So far PILGRIM’S PROGRESS, JOURNEY TO THE SKY, and youth film, STEP OVER THE EDGE are all finished. This leaves the simpler 2 children’s films to be completed and returned. Thank you so much for your prayers for the completion of the editing and the processes of formalizing and completing distribution in Cambodia. God has much yet to accomplish through the faithful leaders as this project works towards its completion.

CHIEF ACCEPTS CHRIST

AVangelist Solomon Danso Nyeduala of Ghana writes:

“We have received open doors to many schools to come and present our audiovisual program. We have also established 7 Bible Study Centers in 5 schools and 2 prisons, as well as others in homes. We are very grateful to InterComm for providing these audiovisual tools. The Chief, who gave his palace in the northern region for our last year’s trip, has now become a Christian through the film, NOAH’S ARK & THE GENESIS FLOOD. He has offered us land to build a church. May God continue to bless us all.”


STREET MEETING

"Evangelist Jacob Maigida of Nigeria writes:"

“It is true that God always acts when His children obey and go out to preach as commanded. My team and I showed our Hausa Language version of PILGRIM’S PROGRESS in a street meeting and several hundred people came out and watched over several hours. The movie is so unique that it always draws a crowd, and my team and I were singing using the African drums. It’s fun both in the villages and the cities. After 4 hours of singing, preaching, and enjoying the movie, many people made decisions for Jesus Christ before the rains sent us packing.”

This Report was 1 showings to 400 people with 50 making a decision to accept Christ. (Editor’s note: Just recently in the city of Jos 4-500 Christians were killed by Muslim rioting. Jacob and his team are yet safe. Please pray for Jacob and all the missionaries who operate out of this Central African city.)


 

A PILGRIM’S PROGRESS

Part 1


The Philippines. On these islands thousands of Americans gave their lives to preserve world freedom, which was won in 1945, the year I was born. 18 years later in October, 1963, we arrived from Taiwan. You might say our feet were running before the plane touched the tarmac. The next few days were packed as our Project Films began in earnest. Here we would begin filming ORIENTAL REFLECTIONS for the Evangelical Free Church. Also, THIRST FOR INK, for Christian Literature Crusades. Many days found us filming a bit of each production.

Usually we would lodge for a day or two with a missionary family, and then thoroughly film in and around their mission location, offices, churches, and ministries. Or we would overnight in a Missions Guest House and head out each day to new and interesting locations where language-correct literature was being printed, packed, boxed, shipped, received, opened, broken down, and through purposeful outreach programs placed in the hands of unreached peoples. It was exciting to see missions in action. We met many Nationals, working side by side with the missionaries, who had led them to Christ. Such exciting stories to document.

Back in the 60s, you will remember, missions was still mostly USA missionary driven. The day of the National yet on the horizon. In each country where we filmed - more and more dynamic Nationals were emerging. Church planting was a major emphasis as were orphanages and medical missions. My exciting world tour turned into serious work with very early breakfast each day and very late dinners. Some days we even had lunch. Whatever time it was or wherever you were working, we had rice, the oriental staple. My American tastebuds were being daily challenged, often way out of my comfort zone. With clean water seldom available, we relied on orange crush and coke to get us through most days. They didn’t really expect me to drink tea, did they?

As the day’s work pace proceeded, packing, unpacking, setting up equipment, preparing for shots, etc., all began to take on a life of their own. Filming happens in real time, but preparation for that perfect shot can test your patience and often did. Yet, each day God brought progress with much-needed footage exposed, then carefully marked, packaged, and as often as possible, air freighted home to our laboratory for processing. Good news from home meant the film looked good, and we could proceed on schedule.

The Philippines are very pro-American. So unlike previous Asian stops on our agenda, we felt very welcome here. “Hello Joe” was a common street greeting we heard everywhere. Thanks again to the USA GI who had freed this nation of thousands of islands, opening the door for waves of USA Missions endeavors.
